Frequently
Asked

Questions

Is Chiropractic treatment painful?

Treatment is not usually painful and often provides instant relief from pain. On some occasions, patients  may experience some discomfort for a short period post treatment (especially if there is already inflammation there) but this should ease within a day or two.

Can I see a Chiropractor while pregnant?

You can indeed! You are able to see a Chiropractor through all trimesters of your pregnancy, right up until your due date, which ensures your pelvis alignment is correct to make the birthing proccess easier. Chiropractic adjustments in pregnancy have many benefits, including relieving any back, hip, neck and joint pain. Lauren is also qualified in pregnancy massage, which is proven to help:

- Reduce stress levels

- Relax and loosen muscles

- Improve blood flow

- Reduce fluid build up

- Improve mood

- Lower anxiety

- Improve sleep

Do Chiropractors treat shoulders?

Absolutely! Your shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body and whilst many people will visit a chiropractor for their back pain, we also treat extremities too!

We can treat…
-Frozen shoulder
-Arthritis
-Tendonitis
-Rotator cuff strains/sprains
-Bursitis

We have fully qualified sports therapists on site, who are trained in treating these areas too.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on a number of factors, for example:

-How long the issue may have been there for
-What sort of lifestyle you have
-What sort of job you have
-How active your lifestyle is
-And many many other factors

During your report we put a plan together for you with a number of treatments, so that it is clearly marked out when we would expect to see some good improvements. Throughout this plan we also reassess and monitor you to ensure you’re moving in the right direction.

Can Chiropractors improve posture?

Of course, but it’s got to be a joint effort (pardon the pun!)

We make adjustments to joints and release tension in muscles in order to increase movement, particularly helping anterior head carriage, slouching shoulders and rounding backs. This isn’t a quick fix but over the weeks with prescribes posture rehabilitation you should be able to see visual differences in your posture.

Do Insurance plans cover Chiropractic treatment?

If you have private health insurance, it’s likely that Chiropractic care is covered. However, the extent of coverage may vary among insurance companies - so we recommend checking with your provider. For example, we are a recognised partner for Vitality Health and Aviva.

What is the popping noise when being adjusted?

The popping noises you hear are your joints releasing tiny pockets of air. An adjustment does not affect the bones of either side of a joint; it affects the connective tissue that holds the joint together.

Can I help myself alongside my treatment?

Absolutely! We recommend exercises to complete at home alongside your treatment at LMH Optimal Therapy. Research has proven that patients who do so, notice improvements more quickly than those who do not.

What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is a form of health care that focuses on preventing injury and rehabilitating patients back to optimal functional, work-related and sports-specific fitness levels, irrespective of age or ability.

What is the difference between a Sports Therapist and Physiotherapist?

Sports Therapists specialise in muscles and sports injuries, whereas Physiotherapists focus solely on movement. For those looking to return back to exercise as soon as possible, we advise seeing a Sports Therapist over a Physio Therapist.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Upon arrival we will request that you complete a new patient consent form. You will then be invited into your appointment! If you're visiting for Chiropractic treatment, your first appointment will be a New Patient Consultation which lasts 45 minutes. This includes history taking, postural analysis, spinal screen, any relevant neurological tests & first treatment (where appropriate)
